Editorial policy

This page explains how articles on MovingToIceland.com are researched, written, verified, and maintained. If you use this site to make decisions about moving to Iceland, you should know what goes into the information you're reading.

How articles are written

MovingToIceland.com grew out of over 20 years of answering questions about Iceland. You can read more about that history on our About page.

The editorial judgment behind each article comes from someone who knows Iceland firsthand and has followed its systems for decades. Our editor reads, revises, and approves every article before it goes live. AI tools are used to assist with research, fact checking, drafting, and cross-referencing sources along the way.

How we fact-check

Fact-checking is a separate stage from writing. Every article goes through multiple rounds of verification before publication, each conducted independently of the last.

Every number, fee, government requirement, processing time, and eligibility rule is verified against a live source URL at the time of publishing. The article is revised and re-checked until no issues remain, and our editor verifies anything that still doesn't sit right before publication.

Sources we trust

We prioritize official Icelandic government sources above all others. These include island.is, skra.is (Registers Iceland), skatturinn.is (Iceland Revenue and Customs), statice.is (Statistics Iceland), and other agency-specific sites.

For pricing, we go to the company or institution directly. We do not rely on secondary blogs, forums, or aggregator sites as primary sources. If an official source contradicts a secondary one, the official source wins.

All time-sensitive figures in our articles include an "as of" date so you know exactly when a number was last verified. We would rather show a dated figure than an unverifiable one.

How we keep articles current

Every article on the site is reviewed at least once per year. Topics that change frequently, such as costs, government fees, and immigration requirements, are reviewed more often.

Each article carries a "Last updated" date so you can see when it was last reviewed. When we update an article, we verify all figures and re-check sources, not just the section that triggered the update.

Iceland's systems and costs change regularly. A figure that was accurate six months ago may not be today. The "as of" dates on individual figures and the "Last updated" date on the article are there to help you judge how current the information is.

Corrections

When we find an error, we fix it and update the article's "Last updated" date. If a reader reports a potential error, we verify it against a credible source and correct the article if warranted.

If you spot something that looks wrong, you can report it through the contact form on this site.

Editorial independence

Our articles are written and published independently. Business partnerships, advertisers, and affiliate relationships do not influence editorial content.

The platform does include commercial elements, such as paid listings, sponsored content, affiliate links, and advertising. When content is sponsored or paid for, it is always labeled. Editorial articles and commercial content are kept clearly separate so you always know what you're reading.
