Why we exist
For decades, information about moving to Iceland was scattered across government websites, social media groups, and outdated forum threads. Tourism content is everywhere, but practical, reliable guidance for people actually relocating has been hard to find.
The idea behind MovingToIceland.com came from over 20 years of answering questions about Iceland online. Through destination forums and thousands of conversations, including one of the largest English-speaking communities focused on Iceland, it became clear that many of those questions weren't about tourism. They were about actually moving to Iceland, and there was no dedicated platform pulling it all together in one place.
MovingToIceland.com started as a concept in 2020, launched in late 2022, and has been expanding steadily since. In 2026, we relaunched as a full-featured relocation platform, the first of its kind for Iceland.
What the platform offers
The platform goes well beyond articles. You can track your relocation with interactive checklists, browse and save apartments and jobs, buy or sell a car, and compare insurance quotes. You can also find and RSVP to local events, practice Icelandic through language games, and manage it all from a personal dashboard that keeps your entire move in one place. The platform also connects you directly with local businesses and services as you settle in.

MovingToIceland.com has been active since 2022, with roots going back to 2020. Thousands of people have used the site, and hundreds follow along through our newsletter. It runs on modern, secure technology and is actively maintained and expanded with new content, tools, and features.
